DSC_3124TGIF folks!…TGIF! The weekend is here and if that wasn’t enough, it’s a St. Patrick’s Day kind of weekend. If you haven’t made your plans yet, here are my TOP5 suggestions for things to do, places to see and fun to be had this weekend.

Canada Blooms – Toronto’s annual flower show is a sure sign that spring is coming, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. Come down to the Direct Energy Centre this weekend for acres of demonstration gardens, scores of gardening talks and even a special children’s area where kids can play in the dirt while their parents plan their fantasy annuals beds. Admission is $20 and includes admission to the National Home Show also taking place this weekend.

stay-golden-poster-web1Spring Breakers at Gladstone Hotel – Spring Break is not quite over so get messy like spring breakers do with SheDoesTheCity and The Good Kids at Gladstone Hotel this Friday night during their #STAYGOLDEN dance party. This sweaty classic rock party with music by the likes of The Stones, Led Zeppelin and Springsteen playing all night, is dedicated to the golden era of rock and roll with Steve Rock manning the DJ booth. SDTC’s resident photographer Becca Lemire will share the photo love with those with the biggest hair and most acid washed denim so prepare. It’s only $5 to get in so come out and dance!

Bell Free Weekend at the Lightbox – To close March Break, TIFF has programmed a slate of kid-friendly craft workshops and screenings. Everything else at the Lightbox is also free, including their special 70 mm screenings of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Vertigo.

GuinnessSt. Patrick’s (Party’s) Day –  Nothing says St. Patrick’s Day like a giant outdoor tent and lots of beer. Budweiser will be bringing both to Ontario Place for a two-day celebration of the patron Saint, featuring some traditional and some less than traditional Irish festivities. The event offers a range of live entertainment from The Fourth Well music group from Halifax and DJs, to traditional Irish dancers. Dubbed St. Party’s Day, Bud’s third annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration expects to host upwards of 20,000 people. For more info check out the website.

Drunk on Drama – A Shakespeare play seen through beer goggles is a Shakespeare play seen right! At least that’s the driving principle behind theatrical pop-up ShakesBeer on stage for two shows this Saturday at Artscape Wychwood Barns. The show takes on the tremendous but rather amusing task of staging the Bard’s 37 plays in only 87 minutes. And it get’s even better, audience members (of legal age) are able to view the proceedings while downing a cold glass of local craft beer from the likes of Steam Whistle, Denison’s and Wellington Brewery. Who knows, all that Elizabethan mumbo jumbo might become clearer after a pint or two! For more info check out the website.
